THE STUFF DREAMS ARE MADE OF: INCEPTION

I clearly remember the day I wrote this; it was on the day I watched the film with a bit of school boyish excitement, I wrote this as a review to one of the dailies here, needless to say it was rejected for a plain review which gave out most of the plot, which quite deters the purpose of a review. A review in my humble opinion should only make the reader watch the film (good or bad) after all a piece of film is taken to be watched, such reviews only add to the pool of humans who judge a film based on its review, but sadly in this any case any review of Inception would only make the movie more interesting unless of course it is written by a boring writer such as myself. So I stand here again, in a spot where I have to explain myself or convince myself that the one which was published was a better one, ok moving on.
How important is the mind in the human body? Do we regard it in the same status as the brain or the eyes or even the heart; can we first define what the mind it so as to weigh its importance and finally can all this about the mind asked in the form of a sci-fi thriller?
We have seen thrillers before; of many a kind but Inception is nothing like anything we have seen before, the thing with Christopher Nolan is that apart from coming out with great stories for the screen he tosses questions at his audience whether deliberate or not like what is morality? (The Dark Knight) Who a real hero is? (Batman Begins) and how far should people go to avenge themselves? (The Prestige)
Nolan is one of the few directors who holds his audience in high esteem and makes them think apart from giving them a good day at the movies. In Inception, he delves deep into the human psyche and into their sub conscious. Leonard Di Caprio ( possibly in his best since The Aviator) plays Cobb an architect who steals ideas and memories from the minds of others and is aided by a similar group, in a desperate attempt to return to homeland he goes even further to plant an idea into another man’s mind which he calls Inception.
The movie is a thriller of the highest order and convolution; layer beneath layer the movie not only surprises but also keeps you guessing and yes there is Nolan’s insistence of parallel storylines and non linearity which only adds to the charm of the movie, the script which he took almost a decade to write is aptly given life by supporting characters in the forms of Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Nolan regulars Cillian Murphy and Sir Michael Caine and a haunting score by Hans Zimmer
For all its complexities, repeated viewing is advised but like all good movies; Inception will surely be held in high regard both in the career of Christopher Nolan and in the un-ending graphs of Cinema. Hitchcock would have been proud, maybe even a little bit jealous.
